Radioaisle's new release Raincheck marks a turning point for the project. After 20 years performing as a solo act Elias Ntais on guitar is joined by Madalena Graça on double bass and Saskia von Klitzing on Percussion. The new line up revisits material from the eps released in the past 15 years and rearranges old song structures by reinterpreting, rewriting and exploring the possibilities the new instrumentation offers.
Raincheck is the first of a series of live to tape recordings that capture the band in the studio. The songs are performed live and committed to tape without editing, adding an exciting new dimension to the songs. All songs are performed on a tenor guitar developed specifically for Radioaisle after a storage space theft that led to the loss of many custom instruments. Deimel Guitarworks designed a tenor guitar that allowed for the material to unfold in new ways supporting Elias Ntais's alternative guitar tuning songwriting.
Madalena Graças unique orchestration skills and groove syncs in with Saskia von Klitzings krautrock beats performed on a custom made Archangel Davul from Greece, giving Elias Ntais room to further explore the guitar as a blank canvas. Loops, bowed parts and minimal beats make up a landscape of sounds that form into songs, only to fall apart into guitar noise and feedback.
The Session was also filmed in cinematic quality by long time collaborator Jorgos Katsimitsoulias who has directed multiple music documentaries. The performance captures the musicians interacting in the live room of River Studios in Cologne and recording live to tape. The session was engineered by Nick Benoy who is responsible for Radioaisle's recordings since 2020.
Jorgos Katsimitsoulias black and white film provides a collage of the bands performance highlighting the unique interaction of the trio. Guitars mixed with the soundscapes Madalena Graça performed over the tight beats Saskia von Klitzing provides. A constant dialog between the musicians visually captured on film, depicting a new band developing a new language in the studio.
Raincheck will be released digitally together with the video session in April of 2025 and a limited edition vinyl will follow later in the year. The beautiful cover artwork was shot by Jorgos Katsimitsoulias in the studio during the recording, capturing the bands recording set up and vibe.
Radioaisle will focus on Studio work in 2025 and only perform selected festivals in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. In those selected shows the band will perform newly rearranged material from Radioaisle records, the songs featured on Raincheck, as well as some new material. After a series of live to tape records Radioaisle will go into the Studio to record its first studio record featuring the new line up and new compositions.
